Kerala
Kerala, one of the most idyllic states of India, lies to the extreme southwest of Indian peninsula. Kerala, the “Gods own Country”, is a land of great natural beauty. It is flanked by the Arabian Sea on the west and the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats on the east. The state can be divided into hills, valleys, midland plains and coastal belts. Formed in the year 1956, it has 14 districts with Thiruvananthapuram as its capital. It is famous for its rivers, backwaters and endless beaches. Besides, ayurveda, unani and naturopathy have also become quite popular among tourists, national as well as international.
The climate is equable and varies little from season to season. The temperature normally ranges from 80°F (26°C) to 90°F (32°C) in the plains but drops to about 70°F (21°C) in the highlands. No wonder, Kerala has become a tourists’ paradise. Bamboo rafting; rice-barge houseboats; floating markets; ayurvedic massage, duck-rearing; cycling; cardamom plantations; elephants and bison etc beckon the tourists in all seasons. In fact, the season never ends in this breath-taking beautiful piece of land.
Kovalam Beach
Kovalam is an internationally renowned beach with three adjacent crescent beaches. It's location is just 16 kms from trivandrum city. It has been a favorite haunt of tourists, especially Europeans, since the 1930s. A massive rocky promontory on the beach has created a beautiful bay of calm waters ideal for sea bathing. The leisure options at this beach are plenty and diverse - sunbathing, swimming, herbal body toning massages, special cultural programmes, catamaran cruising etc. The tropical sun acts so fast that one can see the faint blush of coppery tan on the skin in a matter of minutes. Life on the beach begins late in the day and carries on well into the night.
